Entering the world of work

The responsibilities associated with getting a job for the first time are challenging for everyone to get to grips with. We know pushing young people into work before they have the right skills can knock their confidence. One of the ways our Support Into Employment team on the Isle of Man aim to support young people is to help create opportunities for them and nurture their talents so they are ready to secure the right role for them.

Since we launched this programme in February 2019 we have helped young people complete 12 volunteer placements, 36 trial shifts and 7 work placements, which has led to 13 paid jobs.

The team supports young people to build the skills they need, navigate the complicated world of job hunting and work through the initial difficulties of starting a new job. The team work hard to get to know young people so that they know their interests and can help them to find work which is engaging, fulfilling, and something they feel committed to working in. The team also work closely with 40 businesses to ensure they are well supported and understand some of the challenges the young people face. In doing so, we try to ensure that the experience is as straightforward for the young people as possible to help them take their first step into the world of work.

We are always looking for more businesses to partner with to support young people on the Isle of Man take this first step. Please contact the Fundraising team if you think you could help or make a donation today.
