Dawn Higgins

Dawn qualified as a social worker in 1994 and has over 30 years’ experience, developing a strong foundation in safeguarding, risk assessment and multi-agency practice. Dawn’s career reflects a sustained commitment to protecting and advocating for vulnerable children and young people.

Most recently, Dawn spent four years working in the Caribbean, where she held a role as a Supervising Social Worker, Care and Protection (MASH) Officer and she was also a foster carer. This experience required her to adapt her skills to a different legislative and cultural context while maintaining the same core focus on child safety and wellbeing. The lived insight into the fostering journey, from the carer’s side, deepened her empathy and understanding of the challenges and rewards faced by carers.

Dawn brings to St Christopher’s a combination of long-standing child protection expertise, international supervisory experience and personal fostering experience, which is grounded in a commitment to relationship-based, trauma informed practice that is credible and child-centred.
