Short break / respite fostering

Short break or respite foster care means looking after foster children for short periods of time.  This can be anything from one day to a few weeks.

This type of foster care is sometimes used for children with disabilities.

Respite foster care is often used:

  • to give their parents a break
  • to help the child to develop relationships with other people.
