Application and Assessment

It usually takes 4-6 months for a successful applicant to be approved as a foster carer.

The process helps you to decide if foster care is right for you, as well making sure our children and young people are in the best possible hands.

After you’ve registered your interest, our fostering team will get in touch to discuss your application.

If you are suitable to be a foster carer, an initial home visit will be set up to talk to you in more detail.

If you are successful, the next stage would be for you to meet one of our team regularly over a few months and be assessed as a foster carer.  You will also be required to attend training sessions.

The majority of the assessment sessions will take place at your home and on a one-to-one basis.  Once our assessment is complete, the final stage is for a panel to formally approve our recommendation to appoint you as a foster carer.

Single people and couples are equally welcome as foster carers.  If you are part of a couple, both of you will need to be go through the assessment process before you can be appointed.
