All the children, young people and vulnerable adults that we care for can now be actively involved in the planning and delivery of their care and support.
Our service user participation officer is here to ensure that everyone knows about this programme and can take part.
We employ two part time participation assistants who are drawn from our community of service users, one representing children's services and one housing and support. Each project has elected representatives, who act as a link between staff and service users, helping plan and organise events, chairing meetings and linking up with other organisations.
Service user representatives sit on 'Challenge4Change', our participation panel, which is co-chaired by one of the participation assistants and the director of operations, enabling them to communicate directly with members of the council of trustees.
We are determined to ensure that the people in need of support become genuine partners in our work. Our service users are consulted on policies and service delivery standards. They are also involved in the recruitment of new staff for St Christopher's.
Service users also play a key part in planning and organising annual events to celebrate their achievements, as well as a cross-organisation five-a-side football tournament; a lively event that is always enjoyed by all who take part or come to watch.
