Leaving care in Richmond

St Christopher's provides an accommodation and leaving care service in partnership with the Royal Borough of Richmond upon Thames Social Services. Our aim is to provide high-quality accommodation and support to young people preparing to leave the care of Richmond Social Services.

Who is it for?

Young people looked after and leaving care in Richmond between the ages of 16 and 21 may apply for a placement.

These young people receive

• supported accommodation
• an allocated keyworker
• regular planned contact for advice and support
• a Pathway Plan that is reviewed every six months

for as long as they are using our services in Richmond.

Aims

Richmond Leaving Care aims

• to support young people in their preparation for independent living
• to help them develop their life skills
• to support them in taking up opportunities in education, training and employment
• to provide safe and comfortable accommodation offering 24-hour support.

The keyworkers are responsible for

• Pathway Plans
• advocacy and representation
• coordinating services and helping young people access useful services
• working directly with young people and helping with
  • preparation - getting ready for leaving care
  • transition - making changes/moving on
  • consolidation - stability in independence, including
    • general health
    • identity
    • confidence and self-esteem
    • relationships
    • life skills and lifestyles
    • basic skills
    • education and careers
    • finances and benefits
    • legal issues
    • housing.
