For years, vulnerable young people have been failing in terms of educational attainment. Every year, throughout the UK, around 75% leave care with no recognised qualifications.
We are doing something about it.
We are working to get children back into education, rebuild their confidence and improve their skills through a number of initiatives.
In our children's homes, we are re-engaging our young people in education through specialist tutorial support. This ranges from homework clubs for those in school to tutorials for those without a school place. There are also opportunities to take part in music, drama and art.
In our supported housing projects, many of our youngsters have been in care and lack basic skills. We are helping young people towards independence by teaching them how to cook and budget for themselves. This is vital as nearly 75% of our tenants are living on an income of less than £60 per week to meet all their living expenses.
