Welcome to the latest edition of ‘Opening Doors’, St Christopher's newsletter. In this issue we have decided to concentrate on two main areas; St Christopher’s young people and the London Refuge.
Young people are at the heart of everything we do. It is easy to get so caught up in the day-to-day business of running our 60 projects that you lose sight of why St Christopher’s was set up originally. But when you see the young people and hear their stories it reminds you that St Christopher’s really is a lifeline to thousands of people every year.
We have also dedicated a page to the London Refuge. Many of you are loyal supporters of this project, the only safe haven for underage runaway children in London. This year we are reviewing the project to make sure we are still offering the right lifeline for young runaways. We are piloting new models that will meet a range of needs, from large numbers of children who will benefit from a mediation style service through to those most at risk who will still need accommodation. This will include looking at the best way of funding the various options. In the next edition we hope to be able to give you a fuller picture of the way forward.
As you will see, our work has been developing rapidly across children’s services, supported housing and our fostering projects, to the point where we really are at the cutting edge of many types of support. All this has happened within an increasingly challenging financial climate.
Thank you so much for the support we’ve received over the past year; the wonderful successes we’ve seen have been made possible due to the kind generosity of our supporters.
