St Christopher’s homeless intervention project in Greenwich has been included as an example of good practice in the Communities and Local Government National Youth Homelessness Scheme.
The homeless intervention project, run in close partnership with the London Borough of Greenwich, aims to reduce the number of individuals presenting as homeless by educating young people about the realities of homelessness.
The National Youth Homelessness Scheme has its own website, which is aimed primarily at local authorities. It provides resources and information about developing and commissioning services.
It cites the homeless intervention project as a case study in the subject area ‘Working with schools’. It notes that ‘The project has had an immediate and measurable impact on the young people involved’ and gives a detailed account of St Christopher’s innovative use of peer educators to deliver work in schools, as well as our top tips for developing work with schools.
The site also provides several downloads from St Christopher’s, including a feedback form for young people to fill in, and a budgeting exercise for use with schools.
