Homeless intervention project launched in Southwark

6 August 2007

Following the success of our peer education initiative in Greenwich, we are proud to announce that we are extending the service to the London Borough of Southwark.

Working in partnership with the local authority, this exciting new service will work with 13-17-year-olds to increase their awareness of homelessness through peer-led presentations.

Service users and former service users will visit schools, colleges and youth centres throughout the borough to inform young people about the realities of homelessness.

We aim to develop strong relationships with schools in the area and provide a comprehensive programme to reduce the incidences of youth homelessness in Southwark.

The work of St Christopher’s homeless intervention projects is highly praised by the service users who take part, the young people who listen to them, and by local authorities and other organisations working to reduce homelessness:

‘The schools work that St Christopher’s are due to provide for us is an essential component of our approach to tackling and preventing homelessness among young people in Southwark.’ Claire Linnane, Policy and Performance Manager, London Borough of Southwark.

‘The SELHP wholly supports this initiative and is encouraging all boroughs to commission its service.’ Claire Ritchie, Homelessness Coordinator, South East London Housing Partnership.
