CD raises funds for Refuge

06 June 2007

Singer-songwriter and jazz pianist Olly Wedgwood is raising much-needed funds for the St Christopher’s London Refuge for Runaway Children from sales of his new CD ‘Just Friends.’

The album of uplifting and vibrant jazz, soul & boogie classics includes ‘Fly Me to the Moon’, ‘Mr Bojangles’ and ‘Your Song’ as well as original material by Wedgwood himself.

Wedgwood, who is busy playing events across the UK, describes his style as encompassing everything from the ratpack style of Frank Sinatra and chums, all the way to the funky melodies of Stevie Wonder, with a nod to Paul Simon and Billy Joel along the way. In his own words: ‘good songs and stories that people will want to listen to.’

When he began recording the album two years ago, Olly saw a TV documentary about the Refuge, featuring Will Young. He decided there and then that this was a really worthy cause, and wanted to help.

Wedgwood has just handed over a cheque for £500 to St Christopher’s, and the Just Friends album is continuing to raise funds for the London Refuge. Each CD sold raises 50p, and signed copies raise £1.25 for the Refuge.

You can hear selections from the CD and buy it for £8.50 (or £10 for a signed copy) at http://www.ollywedgwood.com/OW_album.htm
