The lead article in the April 2007 edition of the Supporting People Newsletter published by Milton Keynes Council traces the recent history of St Christopher’s projects. It commends the high quality of our services and the way we have surpassed all expectations by expanding our services to meet the increasing needs of the young people in the area.
The report begins:
“A ten place supported accommodation scheme for young people with high support needs opened at Downhead Park in March. The support provider is St Christopher’s Fellowship and Bedfordshire Pilgrims Housing Association is the landlord. Supporting People would like to thank both organisations for the hard work in getting the service up and running, we were really impressed by the high quality of the scheme at our recent visit.”
And goes on to say:
“ We set ourselves a target of 50 additional accommodation and floating support places including teenage parents. Although there was some debate at the time that the need was higher, the target of 50 was agreed as this was believed to be achievable in a five-year time frame. St Christopher’s Fellowship was commissioned in 2002 as the preferred provider to deliver a range of provision.”
And concludes:
“The number of new accommodation or floating support places developed by St Christopher’s since 2002 will therefore be 61 places … Given the tough financial climate … service providers can be very proud that more than 100 young people are now supported than would have been the case 5 years ago.”
