24 October 2008
On Wednesday 22 October our high-needs service in Milton Keynes hosted a networking fun day. The day was a great success, with service users enjoying the barbecue, the fun and games as well as the chance to meet – and soak – members of St Christopher’s head office staff.
The event was organised by Changes, the local service user forum. Its purpose was twofold: to provide an opportunity for stakeholders and partner agencies to meet each other and St Christopher’s staff and service users, and – crucially – to raise money for the local celebration of achievement event to be held in December.
St Christopher’s staff played their part in making sure the day was profitable, with Mark Reeves (director of corporate services), Phil Townsend (head of housing and support) and Vanessa Bell (service user participation officer), volunteering to have wet sponges thrown at them in return for hard cash, and brave (or foolish?) Barry Coppinger, support worker at the Milton Keynes high-needs service, having his head completely shaved, all in the name of ‘charidee’.
Attendees included representatives from Brook, YMCA, the Ark, WI, YOT and BPHA.
A fantastic day was had by all (even those who ended up wet or bald) and an incredible £267 was raised - £200 sponsorship for Barry’s head shave and £67 from food and wet sponge throwing.
Many thanks to all who attended and gave their support and to the organisers Charlotte, Natalie, Eli and Sue – who is possibly still surgically attached to the donation tin!
