Fit for 2008 is a new drive to increase awareness and levels of health, fitness and well-being across the organisation.
Stepping Out, St Christopher’s housing and support newsletter, has published a special edition devoted to health and well-being.
The issue is packed with helpful tips to enjoy a healthier life, along with recipes, illustrated exercises and contact details for anyone needing further information, advice or help. Among the areas covered are
- healthy eating
- sexual health
- healing herbs
- eating disorders
- stretching.
The special edition also features a variety of health-related resolutions from a group of service users. These include
- ‘to incorporate healthy eating into my budget’
- ‘to stop smoking’
- ‘more cycling’.
Not to be outdone, two St Christopher’s staff members took part in a sponsored bike ride last weekend. They covered 56 miles to raise money for a group of charities in Africa, South Asia and South America.
One of the Fit for 2008 features is a clear explanation of why it is so important to eat around five portions of fruit and vegetables per day. This is accompanied by two mouthwatering delicious smoothies, and a competition to win a smoothie maker.
The smoothie maker was won by Adel Gaawan, a Limegrove service user. Adel was thrilled with being the lucky winner and is looking forward to creating lots of delicious smoothies!
