St Christopher's Camden home for young people aged between 12 and 16 has maintained high standards over the years. However, recently this eight-bedded home has excelled itself, being rated as 'outstanding' in a recent Ofsted report.

On Wednesday 21st January 2009 a group of five young people from our UK children’s homes, accompanied by our two participation assistants, attended a meeting of the Associate Parliamentary Group for Looked-After Children and Care Leavers (APG). The theme of this particular meeting was ‘promoting positive images of children in care’.

Downhead Park service users held a car wash day on 21 June 2008. The aim of the day was to support the tenancy involvement initiative run by their landlord, Bedfordshire Pilgrims Housing Association (BPHA) and to combat the negative publicity that St Christopher's Downhead Park service had received in the past.

To tie in with the introduction of the ban on smoking in public places introduced in England this month, St Christopher's non-smoking staff have produced a special edition of Stepping Out, the service users' newsletter. Stubbing Out features information about the dangers of smoking, details of all the nasty additives in the average cigarette, and help for those who want to give up. The merger, announced this week, of Elite Fostering Limited with St Christopher's Fellowship, means that St Christopher's now provides a comprehensive fostering and family placement service.
Celebrity guests, including Rhino from Gladiators and Romeo from So Solid Crew, made moving speeches in support of the work done by St Christopher's, and presented awards to some of our outstanding service users.
Six months ago we introduced bike maintenance classes at Limegrove hostel, and they are already a great success, winning the runner up award in the London Cycling Campaign annual awards for Best Community Cycling Initiative 2005.
In 2005 we piloted an innovative email-text messaging system that enables young people in our supported housing to contact their housing support officers through text messages.
