St Christopher's children's home retains Outstanding Provider status

15 November 2011

Staff at one of St Christopher’s children’s homes were celebrating yet again as they received another outstanding Ofsted inspection report.  This means that the home retains its Outstanding Provider status.

All children's homes are regularly inspected by Ofsted and are graded from ‘inadequate’ to ‘outstanding’.  Receiving an ‘outstanding’ rating at inspection demonstrates that homes are providing the highest levels of quality care and represents real dedication from the staff teams. Outstanding Provider status is awarded to children’s homes that achieve two consecutive ‘outstanding’ inspections within a year.

To put this achievement in perspective, Ofsted inspected nearly 2,000 children’s homes last year, 14% were rated outstanding, 8.75% achieved two outstanding inspections and received Outstanding Provider status.

The home was inspected under the new framework which focuses on the quality and impact of services and the outcomes achieved for children and young people.  Young people living in the home are now much more involved in this process.  The inspection report judged the home to be outstanding in all seven areas and stated:

"Young people achieve positive outcomes and are provided with high quality care within a warm, caring, nurturing environment with firm and consistent boundaries."

Director of Operations, Ron Giddens, said:

“I am very impressed with this result which clearly reflects the dedication of the team and the excellent levels of care they provide.  I am aware that this inspection was rigorous and the team worked hard for their well deserved success.”
